Martin Rumble – Black British Poetry

Martin Rumble is of African Caribbean descent with Jamaican and Guyanese heritage. He was born and raised in the UK and left school without any GCSEs. As a result of this, he educated himself in mathematics and became a qualified engineer. As his poetry demonstrates, he has an extremely deep and unique perspective, yet makes difficult concepts accessible. His poetry leans on his foresight and natural affinity for reading people. He has experienced systemic racism and racial microaggressions in both the educational system and whilst working in the engineering sector. His poems are both an acknowledgement of this racially covert and anchoring reality, whilst simultaneously aspiring to find solace and positive commonality in the solidarity of the Black global majority.

Martin’s main interests are in mathematics, ancient Ethiopian history and language, western politics and anthropology, and indigenous herbology.
